Modern / Jazz
At the Danshuis, modern lessons are often combined with Jazz dance. This expressive style originated in North and Central America with influences from African dance and jazz music and has many specializations from show jazz to modern jazz.
The Urban styles later also emerged from Jazz dance. Teacher Henry calls his class 'Moderno', a class that is rooted in Modern Afro-Cuban dance styles and influenced by various movement principles such as folklore, contemporary and classical ballet.

Classical Ballet
The classical ballet lessons are given according to the Russian Vaganova method. With this method you work on building a strong technique (strength and balance), but at the same time it is also a very dancing method.
You become aware of your posture, work on flexibility and strength and develop your dancing qualities and grace. Dancers from the age of 16 and adults with a very advanced level can take lessons from Nicolas or Haya.

Modern Dance
Danshuis Haarlem specializes in modern dance lessons. You can practice both the more 'classic' modern styles, such as Cunningham, Limón and Graham, as well as contemporary styles, such as Modern Floorwork.
There are lessons for beginners to very advanced for children from 8 years old, young people and adults. Sometimes modern dance is combined with classical ballet or jazz.

More info about the styles: Classical ballet is great for building or improving your basic technique (posture, body awareness, coordination, strength and balance). These lessons are intended for dancers aged 16 and over who want to delve deeper into the technique of the different styles and who enjoy a more serious style of work.
The lessons are therefore not necessarily more complicated than regular lessons, but more precision is required of the dancers. Good technique makes a better dancer. Admission to these lessons is in consultation with the teachers. Anyone who is interested can come and take a trial lesson.

Rehearsals Dansgroep Haarlem
Dansgroep Haarlem brings committed dance theatre in which current themes are translated into personal and compelling performances.
The company is intended for well (professionally) trained dancers who do not want to make dance their profession (anymore), but who do want to continue training and dancing at the highest achievable level. Dance teachers who like to be on stage are also welcome.
