Contribution to course fees
Not every parent can afford ballet lessons. There are options for support for parents with little money. Start an application with Sam& for a contribution to the tuition fee! Sam& is a collaboration between Leergeld Nederland, Jeugdfonds Sport & Culture, Jarige Job Foundation and Children's Aid. Sam& ensures that the application reaches the correct organization.

Classical Ballet / modern dance
Combination lessons of classical ballet and modern dance are given at the Danshuis. The lesson starts with about half an hour of classical ballet technique and then dances based on modern dance technique. A great lesson for young people who enjoy working on their technique, but also want to dance more freely. During the modern dance part, improvisation is also used, so that the dancers can fully express and further develop their own creativity. Please note: all dancers aged 10-18 are required to take at least 2 lessons per week.

Modern / Jazz
Modern dance is built on sound technique, involving body awareness, strength, gravity and many of the skills of dance. Moreover, it is a theatrical style with room for the student's own creativity. Various techniques are used, such as Floorwork and Cunningham, but there is also a lot of room for improvisation. Dancing on the floor, moving throughout the room to tasty, beautiful and surprising music from all over the world!
At the Danshuis, modern lessons are often combined with Jazz dance. This expressive style originated in North America with influences from African dance and jazz music and has many specializations from show jazz to modern jazz. The Urban styles later also emerged from Jazz dance. During the mixed lessons, attention is paid to both styles.
Please note: all dancers aged 10-18 are required to take at least 2 lessons per week.

Classical ballet
At Danshuis Haarlem, in addition to the elements of musicality and creativity, a lot of attention is paid to the technical development of the dancers. We mainly do this during classical ballet lessons. These are given according to the Russian Vaganova method. With this method you work on building a strong technique (strength and balance), but at the same time it is also a very dancing method. You become aware of your posture, work on flexibility and strength and develop your dancing qualities and grace.

Modern Dance
Danshuis Haarlem specializes in modern dance lessons. You can practice both the more 'classic' modern styles, such as Cunningham, Limón and Graham, as well as contemporary styles, such as Modern Floorwork. There are lessons from beginners to advanced for children from 8 years old, young people and adults. Sometimes modern dance is combined with classical ballet or jazz. Susan gives a mix of modern and Floorwork. Advanced dancers can participate in the short courses and workshops on Sundays.

+ or ++ lessons
These lessons are intended for young people aged 10 and over who want to delve deeper into the techniques of the different styles and who prefer a more serious working style. The lessons are not necessarily more complicated than regular lessons, but more precision is required from the dancers. Good technique makes a better dancer. Basic skills such as balance, turning and jumping will work better if your technique is more developed. This offer fits in nicely with the Danshuis' ambition to approach dance as a craft and performing art.
Admission to these classes is in consultation with the teachers. Anyone who is interested can come and take a trial lesson.
We recommend that dancers from the Production Group take at least 1 ++lesson per week in a self-chosen style.
