From Monday 18 to Saturday 23 November, Danshuis Haarlem organizes an Open Week of the Dance Preparatory Course Haarlem. A varied program with three choreographies. The dance performance Wild premiered with great success during the Dansdagen Haarlem in a sold-out Schuur. The support program features two short choreographies, a presentation of the creative project week "Sisyphus and Death" and "Samen_Spel" by Dansverdieping. This performance is part of the Haarlem Ecotrip Festival.

In the final performance this year we will tell the story of nature that speaks to us. That is why we take you on a journey through different aspects and areas of nature on earth. From the origins of life to rodents in the desert and stars in the sky, we explore the diversity of nature and the role of humans in it. The conclusion seems to be that we humans need nature, but nature does not need us. Let us take care of our earth and all its beautiful processes and appearances! The dancers and team have worked extremely hard in recent months and we can't wait to show you the end result!

Artistic director Haya Maëla is currently working with Dansgroep Haarlem on a special project with the working title Wild. To this end, she enters into an intensive collaboration with professional choreographer Patricia van Deutekom of LAVA Collective, following her previous performance La Despedida. This results in a co-production that will be performed in the Schuur on April 14, in a double bill with a duet by Patricia with two of her own dancers. This is a 'helix' at its finest. DanshuisnHaarlem will hold its annual benefit week from Friday, March 22 to Thursday, March 28. All classes at the Dance House are open to the public who can make a donation to a charity chosen by the dancers, Unicef. Everyone come and have a look!

Project Week takes place in the week of November 20 to 26. During that week we completely change the schedule for teenagers and adults and offer styles that we normally do not teach within the Dance House, such as Latin Jazz, Flamenco, Classical and Modern repertoire, African dance and Salsa.

Inspired by the story of 'Philemon and Baucis' by the Roman poet Ovidius, 9 dancers from the Dans Vooropleiding (14-16 years) of Danshuis Haarlem wondered about their hospitality. And with this dance performance they also want to ask the same question to their audience.

The Municipality of Haarlem has given a positive advice for the project plans of artistic director Haya Maëla. i.c.v. With this Program subsidy Cultuurplan 2022-2024 (for culture makers), the Dance Act Foundation will receive a substantial amount for Maëla over the next 2.5 years.

This means that the projects of Dansgroep Haarlem and DansVooropleiding Haarlem can be realized!

Maëla: “I feel honored and appreciated. After years of smaller project subsidies, with this support I can deliver even more quality and we can further professionalize our organization. We had to write the application in a short time and together with Anet Cronheim of the board and Jolanda Keurentjes, fundraiser, we managed to describe a nice plan. In the coming years I will work with great enthusiasm to realize wonderful projects!”

The first project will be IBU (Indonesian for 'mother'), after Maëla created AYAH (Indonesian for 'father') 5 years ago.

Part 1 of that project will premiere at the end of November 2022.
