Marion Vijn

Teacher classical ballet
My name is Marion Vijn. My dance roots are in Haarlem: as a little girl I started with ballet at Balletstudio Kennemerland. I successfully completed my training as a classical dancer at the HBO of the Scapino Dance Academy in Amsterdam (now National Ballet Academy) in 1985. After that I danced for 5 years at the Scapino Ballet in Amsterdam. Then I worked as a dancer at The Royal Swedish Ballet in Stockholm. During these 10 beautiful years I danced soloist roles on national and international stages in large ballets such as The Nutcracker and Coppélia (Navarro), Sleeping Beauty (Petipa), Swan Lake (Petipa), Cinderella (Ashton), La Bajadère (Makarova to Petipa) , The Tempest (Tetley) and Romeo and Juliet (MacMillan). I also danced (main) roles in choreographies by, among others, Jirí Kylián, Nils Christe, George Balanchine, Jan Linkens, Thom Stuart, John Neumeier, Hans van Manen and Toer van Schayk. I received the Incentive Prize from the Stichting Dansersfonds '79 (1988), founded by Han Ebbelaar and Alexandra Radius. From Friends of The Royal Swedish Ballet I received the Mariane Orlando Stipendium (1994).
After obtaining the HBO diploma in Dance at the Theater School in Amsterdam in 1996, after my active dance career, I became a rehearsal of the children of the National Ballet Academy who participated in the productions of the National Ballet. During this period, I went deeper into teaching the Russian ballet style, the Vaganova style. I followed the VAGANOVA course "From professional dancer to classical dance", given by Peter Silkin, and successfully completed it in 1996. I took various refresher courses with Kalina Bogoeva. From 2006 to 2014 I worked for the National Ballet Academy as a teacher of classical dance. From 2015 I will organize dance workshops for Jump, the fan club of Dutch National Ballet, and I will work as a freelance teacher of classical ballet.
How wonderful is it when you can go into a passion. And how fantastic is it when there is a place where you can experience your passion with those around you who are as passionate as you are! I give everyone that experience and I feel, when I walk around in Danshuis Haarlem / Dansgroep Haarlem, that the school is an inspiring, safe and stimulating environment for anyone who wants to dance, whether in a modern or classical class, a children's class, a pre-training class or a performance! At every level, professional lessons are given in which everyone can share his or her passion for exercise. I very much like to contribute to the further development of this unique "dance laboratory" so that Haya, with her dedicated and enthusiastic team, can make a lot of children, young people and adults enjoy the experience of dance !!
